Create a Jewish Legacy

GOVERNANCE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Building on the remarkable success of the Endowment Leadership Institute, the Foundation inaugurated in 2008 a two-year initiative to build stronger governance practices by Jewish organizations and synagogues.

While the Foundation is the creator and provider of the GLI program, it will also be a full participant in GLI alongside the 12 other participating organizations and synagogues.

Through GLI, the Foundation will work to cultivate a population of trained leaders who are eager to serve on the boards of our Jewish community organizations. Just imagine a future in which each organization has a waiting list of highly qualified volunteers for board service. Together, we are raising the bar so that volunteer leaders feel fully rewarded by their board service.

By helping organizations strengthen nonprofit governance practices, GLI is enhancing trust and credibility within organizations and between organizations and the community. GLI is an important investment to help ensure donor confidence in our Jewish organizations.

GLI fulfills the mission of the Foundation to “promote philanthropy … and increase current and future support for a vibrant and secure Jewish community in San Diego, Israel and around the world.” GLI also fulfills a strategic goal adopted by the Foundation’s board in 2006, “to build capacity of San Diego Jewish nonprofits.”
