Leichtag Family Foundation

Since its inception, the Leichtag Family Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $40 million, which are improving people’s lives and benefiting the community.

Based in Carlsbad, California, the Foundation works closely with the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego, which manages the Foundation’s grant-making process.

In November 2009, the Leichtag Family Foundation made a substantially larger gift after Mrs. Leichtag’s death. The $10 million donation to The Campaign for Scripps Encinitas marks the single largest philanthropic donation in the hospital’s 45-year history.  The grant will help Scripps build a $94 million, 60,000-square-foot, two-story critical care facility on its current site that more than doubles the hospital’s emergency room capacity.

Max “Lee” Leichtag, a successful entrepreneur, established the Leichtag Family Foundation in 1991 along with his wife, Andre “Toni” Leichtag, and daughter, Joli Ann Leichtag. The Leichtags were committed to sharing their largesse in ways that have a meaningful impact upon the lives of others: within the Jewish community, throughout the San Diego region and around the world.

Through their visionary philanthropy, grants totaling more than $40 million to date are improving people’s lives and benefiting the community.
