Jewish Community Foundation - Generations of Giving

In 2002, San Diego women came together to form the Jewish Women’s Foundation of San Diego (JWF). Their purpose is to support the Jewish community through innovative and creative funding to benefit and enhance the lives primarily of Jewish women and girls, locally and globally. Guided by Jewish values the JWF creates awareness of the issues and needs of Jewish women and girls. Through the work of the Foundation, women are empowered as funders, decision makers and agents for change in the community.

Being a member of the JWF is an opportunity to work with other women to impact the community on a project-by-project basis. The JWF fund will be a permanent fund that will make grants, once a year, to fund innovative programs and projects throughout our local community, Israel and worldwide.

In 2004 the JWF conceived, established and funded their first grant to create the Supporting Jewish Single Parents program (SJSP) coordinated by Jewish Family Service. After research and focus groups within the community, the program was created to actively welcome and connect Jewish single parents and their children to the San Diego Jewish community. Through information and referrals, networking, support and advocacy, the program helps promote Jewish continuity and offers services that enhance a feeling of belonging and inclusion.

Becoming a member requires a minimum gift of $10,000, which is payable over five years. If the donor is under 35 the minimum gift is $5,000. A minimum gift of $100,000 over five years entitles the donor to lifetime membership and may include other donors in the family as legacy members. Your gift, which is tax deductible, may be made in cash, appreciated stock, from a private/family foundation, or donor advised fund.

All members are given a vote in deciding on the annual grants. Members are invited to serve on one or more committees, or simply to join and support the work of the JWF.

The Jewish Women’s Foundation is open to gifts of any amount through contributions which enable all women to participate in the educational programming of the JWF.
