The Jewish Women's Foundation
Hosted Women's Health Day
The Jewish Women's Foundation (JWF) of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego hosted To Your Health – Health Choices for Jewish Women on February 28, 2008, at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla to help raise awareness about important health issues for Jewish women and girls.
Keynote speakers were:
- Dr. Eric Topol, chief of the Scripps Health Translational Science Institute and Genomic Medicine program, discussed genetic issues concerning Jewish women
- Dr. David Simon, medical director and co-founder of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, lectured on holistic approaches to wellness
"Our health as women is inextricably linked to the health of our families and the health of our community,"
said Event Chair Betty Byrnes. "To Your Health educated attendees about the importance of
maintaining good health, in mind, spirit and body."
Experts spoke on natural medicine, heart disease and the connection between cancer and nutrition:
Rabbi Aliza Berk, director of the Jewish Healing Center of
Jewish Family Service, gave a D'var Torah about holistic health, the connection between mind, body and soul.
Jewish Women's Foundation (JWF) member Judy Fisher spoke about how important the Foundation has been to her and the connections she has made through the Foundation.
At the conclusion, Charlene Seidle, vice president of philanthropy and director of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of San Diego, charged those attending with changing the legacy of secrecy that often shrouds women’s health issues.
The event program, available as a PDF, includes biographies of all speakers, information about the Jewish Women’s Foundation and the
Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego as well as resources for women's health.
Scripps Health Foundation, the event's lead sponsor, and Sharp Healthcare generously committed to underwrite To Your Health.
